There
are many inventions that were created to help the deaf communicate. A special glove (right) is available that hooks up
to a computer. While wearing the glove, one can sign and it will write on the computer what is being signed.
This invention helps many people communicate through e-mail and websites.
There is also an American Sign Language Browser that is available on
the Internet. When using the browser, one sees a demonstration of letters and words. There are also interactive
programs, on-line or hardcopy dictionaries, videos/DVD's as well as Formal Sign Language Interpreter Organizations that
have been developed for sign language. These technologies help teach sign language to aid in better communication.
In addition, the Video Relay System allows a signer to sign to an
interpreter who then translates the message and speaks to the end user. This system may be used in reverse as well.
